Termite Info & Identification

Termites exists in all lower 48 states to some degree. However, in Southeast Ga, we are in the hotbed as far as density of termites per acre. It is estimated that there are as many as 4,000 different species of termites worldwide. However, far & away, the most common & destructive termite in South Ga is the Eastern Subterranean Termite. It is estimated that there are as many as 15-20 colonies/acre of these termites in our area of the country. Having colonies that can average 1 million termites per colony, subterranean termites do more damage in Georgia every year than fire, storms, & flooding combined. It is estimated that subterranean termites cost homeowners $750 million/year in structural damage to homes.

Termite Treatment

Termite Treatments

Subterranean termites’ purpose in nature is to feed on dead wood, breaking it down on a cellular level, so that it can be reused by nature. The trouble comes when colonies that are in the ground surrounding our homes, find ways through our foundations, and begin to feed on the structural wood in our houses or buildings, including wall studs, floor beams & joists, molding & trim, wood flooring, drywall, paneling, etc…Termites often go undetected for extended periods of time, all the while causing structural & cosmetic damage to our homes. The worker termites which gain entry & feed on your structural wood, are cryptic in nature, and require a dark, moist environment to live & thrive. In order to travel back & forth from the underground colony to an above ground food source, subterranean termites construct mud shelter tubes, which are made of soil, saliva, & fecal matter, to shield them from light and air. They must maintain ground contact for continued moisture, as well as to support the colony with food. The illustration below describes how Satilla Pest Control will establish a termiticide barrier in the soil to eliminate the current infestation, as well as to prevent future infestations for years to come.

Termite Pretreatments

The absolute best time to create a preventative plan against any future subterranean termite infestation, is when a home is being initially constructed. As your foundation is being installed, and before any concrete slab or wooden floor system is installed, affords the best time for Satilla Pest Control to establish a complete and continuous soil treatment using the most effective & longest lasting soil termiticides available. Also, before your wall covering is installed, Satilla Pest Control will apply a Borate treatment to your wall studs and exterior sheeting, offering an added protection against any possible infestation. Remember, it doesn’t matter how well a house is built, if termites are going to be destroying it shortly after construction. cALL US AT 283-1537 tODAY!
